This European Beech, Fagus sylvatica, has had a bi This European Beech, Fagus sylvatica, has had a bit of a journey starting with the apex removed from a falling branch from a garden tree during a storm a few years ago. I really loved the design before this accident and I had commenced rebuilding the apex but there was some significant swelling and I knew something had to change. So the first photo is the after and the second the before. The apex was removed, due grinder used to smooth the area, tree rotated 180 degrees, branches removed and repotted. Been a long time coming but I’m much happier now. Still plenty of development work but it’s on track. Needle reduction happens really quickly with decandling and instead of thinning back to two shoots I have to remove entire branches as it becomes quite thick very quickly. I had the opportunity to go the Arco Bonsai Show i I had the opportunity to go the Arco Bonsai Show in a town called Arco surprisingly at the base of the Dolomites in Italy. It’s the second largest show in Italy and the quality of trees both on display and in the sales area were incredible. The sales area was absolutely massive with vendors from all over Europe. There was also a very large hall that had ‘teams’ competing against each other preparing raw stock to a finish bonsai over the period of one day.
